Julio drops by to invite Megan and Kylie to watch him program a 2008 Subaru Legacy. He is going to be programming a transponder key as well as an Ilco look-alike remote key using the Autek. Here’s how he did it!
PROGRAMMING GUIDE BY JULIO: KEY PROGRAMMING A TRANSPONDER KEY
The first thing I did was to make sure that this vehicle, a 2008 Subaru Legacy, works for Autek. I went to the application guide on the product page to verify.
Go to ‘Key Program,’ choose the type of vehicle and select ‘By Vehicle.’
Look for the model and year, in this example it is Legacy 2008.
On the screen, options ‘Key’ and ‘Remote’ will appear. Insert the transponder key and choose ‘Key.’
After it loads, turn the ignition on the press ‘OK.’
‘All keys lost’ will appear on the screen. Click ‘OK.’
It’s going to communicate with the car for a while. Patiently wait until it is done. Once done, your transponder key has been programmed. Pull off the key.
PROGRAMMING GUIDE BY JULIO: KEY PROGRAMMING A REMOTE KEY
Insert the remote key, turn the ignition on, and click ‘OK.’
Once it is done communicating, the programming is done. If you need more keys to be programmed, press ‘OK.’ If there are none, press ‘Esc.’ Since we only have two keys, I pressed ‘Esc.’
Wait and let it communicate. When ‘SUCCESS’ pops up, hit ‘OK.’ Pull off the key and the programming is done!
PROGRAMMING GUIDE BY JULIO: REMOTE/BUTTONS PROGRAMMING A REMOTE KEY
Key programming the remote key is done; time to program its buttons. Go back by pressing ‘Esc.’
It will lead you to a screen with options ‘KEY’ and ‘REMOTE.’ Select ‘REMOTE.’
Using the remote key, turn the ignition on.
Wait for it to connect until ‘PROGRAM THE REMOTE’ pops up. Press ‘OK.’
Input the 8-digit security code. This key came from Ilco with the code needed for this.
When you’re done with the 8-digit code, verify it and hit ‘OK.’
As ‘SUCCESS’ pops up; click ‘OK.’ You can now pull the remote key. Wait for 30 seconds to 2 minutes before trying the buttons on the remote key.
That is how you program a transponder as a regular key. We've programmed the remote key so that it would start the car. And then, separately, we had to go through and do the remote so that the buttons would work.
The Autek did an amazing job! It was simple and smooth to use. A great program for anybody wanting to get into the automotive industry. I hope you guys enjoyed hanging out with me. See you next time!
