The Intruder Lock Function is found on Grade 1 and Grade 2 commercial locks. Just like its name, the Intruder Lock Function is designed to be put on situations where a lockdown or a safety situation comes up, and you need to be able to lock outside of the door from the inside of the door.
HOW IT WORKS
This is the outside or the exterior side of the lock. Since the Intruder Lock has a clutch function lever, even if you pull the handle down, the latch will not move. It is because, like a classroom lock, you have to turn the key 360 degrees to unlock it. And you have to do the same for you to lock it.
The inside of the door of this particular lock has a laser engraved 'LOCK' with the arrow pointing counterclockwise. It is there to help in an emergency, so you don't have to think about which way to turn the key to lock the door from the outside. Some locks don't have laser engraved, but you can take a sharpie and write it on, but it's nice to have it engraved.
In a lockdown situation, all you have to do is insert the key, then turn it 360 degrees in the direction of the arrow, which is counterclockwise, and you're going to see from the outside of the door, it is now locked.
The function is all about turning the key on the inside to unlock or lock the door from the outside. While on the inside lock, it's always going to be unlocked. You can never be locked out in any situation.
The space for the key on the inside lock is only there to allow you to lock the outside or the exterior of the door when needed.
That's the Intruder Function. Thanks, and we'll see you next time.
